Project Description – Johnstons of Elgin Clocktower Regeneration
This was both a challenging and rewarding project. The 19th century flagship clocktower which was originally the factory entrance for staff, was in a state of disrepair, so we removed all of the existing damp plastered walls inside the tower to reveal the old sandstone, and after months of renovation the stunning masonry was brought back to life using high quality lime pointing, lime harl, lime wash and burnt sand mastic. New windows and doors were installed along with new lighting and heating. High in the tower we took out the old spiral stair which also underwent a stunning refurbishment and was then rebuilt piece by piece and finished in Johnston’s corporate colours. At the top of tower we took away the old roof and built a new glazed structure which you can see as you drive down the hill towards the Mill.
